Last Days with my Little Man

IMG_2515E

You probably know by now that I lost a dear friend a few weeks ago. Her husband got a killer job offer in Texas, and away they moved. My sister and her family. Just…gone.

Yes, we are pretty tickled for them. They have been wanting to escape the heat for quite some time now, and he was able to find an incredible job that he loves.

That being said, it’s been a silly month missing them.

I mean, how would you like it if your TJ Maxx/lunch at Café Rio buddy just up and left?

While their daddy headed out to settle their new place and start work, T’liese and Evan spent the week at my house. It was such a treat. And I loved spending time with my little man.

We even went to a splash pad. And, as you can plainly see, he was as adorable as ever.

Until he got cold. Which didn’t take long at all. Because 103 degrees is considered cold ‘round these parts.

IMG_2527E

He had a great mama taking care of him and warming him up.

IMG_2529E

And she brought snacks…for all of us! Why didn’t I think of that?!

IMG_2530E

It brightened up Evan to have some crackers in his tummy. I, for one, was holding out for our planned cupcake treat later on.

IMG_2531E

We “forgot” to tell Evan about the cupcakes, so he dug right into this snack.

IMG_2537E

Who knew that crackers could be comfort food on such a chilly day?

IMG_2538E

Then, it was time to leave the splash pad and walk the ten feet to the playground. Evan had lots of fun in here, and he even enjoyed some people-watching of the other kids.

I don’t know where he gets that.

Since we had to leave early to be home for the car shipping people, we hurried to a cupcake place that many a people had mentioned to us.

IMG_2545E

They were a little expensive…$3.75 a pop, I believe. But they were also a little larger than normal-sized cupcakes, so I justified the entire thing.

Besides, how many more times will I get to eat cupcakes with my sister and nephew before they are gone forever?

(SPOILER ALERT: The answer is none).

IMG_2546E

We tried three cupcakes to share together throughout the rest of the day.

This particular beauty is their Salted Caramel, which was the one bragged about by Hubby’s coworkers.

IMG_2547E

We also got a Red Velvet, of course. You know that this one was mainly my decision.

IMG_2548E

These were pretty, but too simple for us to drop nearly four dollars. So we just admired them from a distance. I love vanilla cake mixed with any kind of frosting!

IMG_2550E

And I’ve also never been a fan much of fruit in my dessert. But I know that T’liese was giving these the lovely eye. Her favorite cheesecake is Lemon Raspberry Cream, so I guess the lovely eye makes sense in this case.

The frosting is pretty with the chunks of raspberry throughout. I just don’t want to eat it.

This, in addition to the Salted Caramel and the Red Velvet, was our final selection. We knew that we needed something with chocolate, so this became the perfect choice.

And finally, they had Orange Blossom. Which sounds good but had a severe lack of chocolate or caramel. So we just moved along…

The day was wonderful…watching cute Evan and eating cupcakes. The final verdict is this: we are so thrilled for Joe, T’liese, and Evan’s new adventure in life. It will be fun to see (from a distance) their family grow and change as they now reside in north Texas. We love and miss you but are stoked for your new job.

As for the cupcakes, mine are better. ‘Nuff said.

  1. Thanks Micah, for the post. We miss you guys too, and I think it still hasn't sunk in that we won't be seeing much of anybody in the future. It will probably really hit me when I hear about the Christmas snack table and I'm here eating fruit and dip!

    1. So true! We've always been there to intervene for the fruit tray before! It will be shocking to see how your eating habits change...
